Carthago C-tourer I142 Review for 2012

Lets review the German made Carthago C-tourer I142

Carthago are German manufacturers who do what the Germans do best – build great quality vehicles and the Carthago C-tourer I142 is no exception with it’s amazing build quality and great levels of luxury that you can find in abundance. So its maybe time to take a closer look at the Carthago Motorhome range.

What do Carthago Motorhomes Cost?

The new C-tourer motorhomes are considerably less expensive than the premium Carthago ranges (UK prices are yet to be confirmed, although Lowdham’s expects them to start in the high £60,000s), but they benefit from the same high quality build standards, which are among the best in European motorhome manufacture today.

Are Carthago Motorhome worth the Price?

Carthago motorhomes are not very cheap but as the saying goes you get what you pay for and if money isn’t an issue you should take a closer look at the Carthago motorhome range.

You can always hire before you buy if a dealer is offering this option, but at the very least you will be able to have a test drive and get a feel for the range at a dealership that stocks the Carthago motorhome range.

Lets Take a look at the design of a Carthago Motorhome

The bodyshell of the Carthago is based on a cage construction and a GRP baseplate, most of this is designed to give you good protection from the elements as the curve of the alloy side for example protects from hail.

As with a lot of modern motorhomes we have FIAT to thank for the excellent chassis with it’s low base which gives this motorhome good handling.  All models are based on the 3500kg Chassis but there is the option to upgrade to the 425o chassis if this suits your budget.  The compact I142 A-class is a very attractive motorhome and has silver sidewalls and a single cab door on the nearside – total length is 6.75 m long.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the Carthago ’van furniture which is top notch and inherited from the more upmarket Chic C-Line range.  The Carthago C-tourer I142 has an L-shaped lounge with single-seater side sofa and for those of you who like to watch movies comes with a flat-screen TV as standard, it’s sits behind the sofa and rises majestically on a metal frame.

Kitchen

The kitchen has a lovely cream veneer to its locker doors and chrome-look furniture handles – definitely the latest fashion – it keeps the kitchen area visually separate from the lounge area, and you don’t need to worry about fitting your lamb chops into the freezer as it has a massive 160-litre fridge/freezer capable of storing all your frozen goodies.  And there’s more for the 2012 season there’s plenty of Chrome such as the Chrome look swan neck tap and large circular sink.

Get Cooking

You can cook all your favourite meals on the three gas burners that have the standard spark ignition.  We have also been told from the manufactures that all UK-specified Carthagos will have an oven and grill fitted as well (layout permitting).

Get Washing up

The wash room is of an adequate size, not huge but acceptable with a double drain shower tray and two drain plugs, and the large toilet is of the swivel-head variety. The designers have made the Carthago C-tourer I142 washroom seem bigger that it is with the clever use of mirrors and there is also plenty of storage which is a pleasant surprise.

Get to Bed

The Carthago C-tourer I142l has four great sleeping berths and a transverse double bed is sited above the garage at the rear of the motorhome.  If you need more sleeping options then you have got it with a large pull-down double bed over the cab seats which makes for a very comfortable sleeping option.

Storage

Surprisingly the Carthago C-tourer I142 has plenty of storage and a massive rear garage space which is lined with plastic and a great place for your bikes etc, there’s also loads of overhead lockers and a good-sized wardrobe.
