London with a difference – try something new on a motorhome holiday

Things to see  in London that are a bit different on a motorhome hire holiday

Why not visit London’s gardens on your motorhome hire holiday, it is unusual to find such a large park in the heart of London but Finsbury Park is the largest open space in the City of London and offers a peaceful escape from the fast paced city.

Finsbury Park was developed in Victorian times and is huge in size about 115 acre’s, it is a public park in the London Borough of Haringey which is a short distance in a motorhome to central London

The London Stock Exchange

If your staying in the city of London on your motorhome holiday, then there are a few more great places that we think are well worth visiting, first up is Paternoster Square which is home to the London Stock Exchange and many other very impressive buildings,  The London Stock exchange is a very iconic building located in the City of London and the the fourth-largest stock exchange in the world.  The Exchange is part of the London Stock Exchange Group.

Bank of England

The Bank of England is a beautiful building steeped in history that was founded over 300 years ago in 1694,  it is a very important bank and the 2nd oldest in the world and the central bank of the United Kingdom,  most modern central banks are now based on the same model as the Bank of England. If you think back to the financial crisis in 2008, the Bank of England is the place that started pumping money into the economy (quantitative easing)  It is in effect the English Government’s bank and came under the control of the Treasury after 1931 and was nationalised in 1946.  In 1997 the infamous Gordon Brown gave the bank independence and  it became an independent public organisation, wholly owned by the Treasury on behalf of the Government.

Don’t think you can just pop down to the bank to get some money for your motorhome hire holiday as the bank is not a public bank, you can however take some time to look at the beautiful architecture of the building if you head for London’s main financial district where the bank has been located onThreadneedle Street, since 1734.

London also has some unusual tall building and skyscrapers and if your taking a motorhome hire break there we recommend you take a look at a couple of the best ones.  Everyone has probably seen a picture of 30 St Mary Axe or as it’s better known the Gherkin! Also worth a visit is The Heron Tower which is the tallest building in the City of London at 202 metres tall, but it wont hold the record for long as two more building are under construction due to break the record it holds. There are so many iconic buildings in London and so much to see and do that you could never get to see everything, we hope this blog gives you some differant ideas of things you can do on your motorhome hire holiday, you can also visit our London motorhome hire page to find out more about London and to book your motorhome.
